The Catholic Church in Namibia will celebrate the 25 Years Silver Jubilee
We are commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the Catholic hierarchy in Namibia.
It was actually on the 14 March 1994 on that day:
The Vicariate of Windhoek became the Archdiocese of Windhoek with Archbishop Bonifatius Hausiku.
The Vicariate of Keetmanshoop became the Diocese of Keetmanshoop with Bishop Antonio Chiminello OSFS.
The Vicariate Apostolic of Rundu was erected with Bishop Joseph Shikongo OMI named as its first bishop.
What it means is that the Namibian Catholic Church has moved from “MISSION TO LOCAL CHURCH.”
During these 25 years, we have grown overall to self-sustainability as local Church. We have come to realize that we should be self-supporting and self-propagating.
This awareness has been created everywhere in the local Church in our beautiful country. We thank God for His guidance and His many blessings on us. We thank all our missionaries, both deceased and alive, for all their efforts to make the Church grow in our country.
We ask God to bless us all.
The celebration of our 25th ANNIVERSARY will take place from 1-2 June 2019 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Windhoek.
